In recognition of his contributions to the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP), Dr. John W. Sutherland, Professor and Fehsenfeld Family Head of Environmental and Ecological Engineering, has been awarded the 2024 AEESP Distinguished Service Award.

His current service as Chair of the Environmental Engineering Program Leaders Committee within the AEESP underscores his commitment to fostering academic collaboration and excellence.

The AEESP Environmental Engineering Program Leaders Committee recognizes the need for a collective platform to support the dynamic and growing field of environmental engineering—a vision Dr. Sutherland has significantly contributed to. His leadership has been instrumental in providing resources for program leaders to enhance and expand their offerings, facilitating a network that bridges academia with professional societies and organizations.

Dr. Sutherland’s dedication to service and academic leadership is recognized by this year’s Distinguished Service Award.
