Past Projects

As an advanced information technology research and development center, CyberLab’s researchers and student interns work on real-life projects and have successfully developed a series of technology products for online learning. Below are several projects the CyberLab once worked on:

 Project 1: CourseNetworking LLC

 Date: 2011- 2024

CourseNetworking (CN) (www.thecn.com) is an academic, social networking suite with four key products: CN LMS Suite (including both Classic LMS and Pathway LMS), CN Post (an LTI  plug-in tool), CN ePortfolio, and Rumi. CN transforms the traditional teacher-centered learning environment into a more global and engaging student-centered, social networking-based learning environment.

Rumi is a personal assistant made available to every CN user by the CyberLab and CN team. Rumi offers personalized recommendations, tips, announcements, and other helpful services through artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance a user’s experience on the CN platform.

CN World is a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization launched in 2022 to offer free and open teaching and learning software tools and services to teachers and students in developing countries. CourseNetworking LLC provides a free perpetual software license to the CN World for dissemination among qualified institutions while continuing to commercialize its products and its services to institutions not qualified for free licenses and services.

 Project 2: Epsilen Environment LLC

 Date: 2007 - 2010

Epsilen is an innovative SaaS app for students and faculty. It combines ePortfolio, global networking, and learning management within its web-hosted environment.

Project 3: ANGEL Learning Inc

Date: 1999-2000

ANGEL Learning was created after Oncourse under the joint effort of CyberLab and ANGEL Learning Inc. In 2009 Blackboard Inc. purchased ANGEL Leaning for about $95 million.

Project 4: Oncourse (Sakai)

Date: 1997-1999

Oncourse is one of the earliest technologies invented in the CyberLab. This learning management system was used by Indiana University for more than 10 years.
