Lefteri Tsoukalas, professor of nuclear engineering at the School of Nuclear Engineering (SNE), is the director of the Center for Intelligent Energy Systems (CiENS). As his brainchild, the center is grounded in his fundamental belief in humanizing the STEM field, and mobilizing research from interdisciplinary experts for solving prescient issues such as climate change. His research interests include neurofuzzy methodologies for complex power systems modeling, diagnostics and control, man-machine interface, and autonomous systems and robotics. A member of various global networks like the American Nuclear Society (ANS) and the Atomic Energy Society of Japan (AESJ), Tsoukalas is a former Head of SNE.
