Soon after the new PGSO executive board was elected, the officers were hard at work to connect PMP students with industrial partners. The first company info session provided by PGSO was with ArcelorMittal – the world’s leading integrated steel and mining company. William Sammon with 40-year experience within the company presented about the steel industry, the entire steelmaking process and the high quality products. In addition, the challenges and opportunities for new engineers at ArcelorMittal were also mentioned.

The most important things PMP students took away from the presentation were steel is the most recycled material on the planet and the most critical factors in the steelmaking process are timing, temperature and chemistry. Overall, it was an exciting time for our students to learn about the modern steelmaking from an expert in the field.
