AI in Engineering: Study Abroad Opportunity in Jordan

Dr. Abdel-Khalik and Mr. Sundaram successfully conducted a Maymester through the Purdue Study Abroad program in conjunction with faculty from the Jordan University of Science and Technology

The Maymester program was conducted from May 8-23 at the JUST campus in Irbid, Jordan with multiple lectures from Dr. Abdel-Khalik, Dr. Malkawi, Dr. Al Rashdan, and Mr. Sundaram covering the latest advancements in AI and its applications across the various engineering disciplines. Participating undergraduate and graduate students were familiarized with the latest challenges and potential opportunities to advance the frontiers of AI through the intensive 2-week course. As part of a cultural interchange program, students from Purdue and JUST participated in a wide range of local activities including visits to Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea, historic sites in Amman, and local family-hosted dinners where they explored the various facets of Jordanian culture and cuisine.
