U.S Naval Research Laboratory Research Engineer Position

Applicant Requirements:
 
The Combustion and Reacting Transport Section (Code 6185) is seeking independent, self-motivated U.S. citizens with pending undergraduate or graduate degrees in mechanical/aerospace engineering, fire protection engineering, chemical engineering, or a closely related field. We are seeking to fill the position of engineering/test technician to support multiple funded research programs focused on propulsion for Navy applications (jet engines, rockets, ramjets, ramjets, and detonation engines).
 
The Naval Research Laboratory is dedicated to advancing basic and applied research with emphasis on topics relevant to naval operations. The Combustion and Reaction Transport Section is conducting fundamental and advanced research in combustion power, fire suppression, and oil spill remediation.
 
Undergraduate applicants must have a background in laboratory research, the ability to work in a team environment, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Ambitious candidates with experience in one or more of the following are particularly desired:
 
• single and multi-phase (foam, spray, particulate, gaseous) flow
• combustion phenomena
• engine or power systems
• optical diagnostics
• instrumentation setup/development
• laboratory and practical-scale experimental development
• script-driven coding and data processing
• hands-on experience in a machine or fabrication shop
• hands-on experience with laboratory and/or field testing
• digital data acquisition
• basic electronics
• prototype design and fabrication

The applicant will work with an R&D team on a variety of programs, implement new experimental designs, assist with development of new test facilities/capabilities, coordinate laboratory testing programs, and coordinate with laboratory personnel.
