Purdue Competitive Speech Team Callout

Purdue Competitive Speech Team Callout

Event Date: September 16, 2020

Purdue’s Competitive Speech Team is Having a Callout!!!

That’s right! We will be having a joint callout with the debate and mock trial teams next Wednesday, September 16th at 5pm on Zoom. Read on for more details!

What is Speech Team?

Speech team is a unique opportunity for anyone looking for a creative outlet, or wanting to gain public speaking, acting, and critical analysis skills. There are a total of 12 different types of speeches that you can do and they fall into 3 categories:

  • Interpretive: Act out a scene from a movie/book, perform poetry, or even perform in a duet.
  • Public Address: Inform your audience about exciting new concepts and technologies, persuade them into action, or make them laugh with comedy!
  • Limited Preparation: Write and perform a speech within a time constraint. Great for thinking on your feet.

For a full list of speech types, feel free to check out their descriptions here.

Why Should I Join Purdue’s Speech Team?

Purdue’s competitive speech team is entering its third year and we have already competed with colleges and universities across the country, from California to Virginia. We have even had a few Indiana state champions and national semifinalists! It is a great opportunity for competitive and enthusiastic people that are willing to learn. And if you are passionate about activism, social injustice, or even showing off your skills in a quantifiable way (tournament results!) this is the place for you.

How Can I Get Involved?

As I said before, we will be having our callout with the debate and mock trial teams on September 16th at 5pm.
