AAE Grad Students Attend NextProf Workshop

Three AAE graduate students were selected to attend The NextProf workshop at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor September 25 – 27, 2013. 

Alinda Aligawesa was nominated by Prof. James Garrison   

Kaela Martin was nominated by Prof. James Longuski

Payuna Uday was nominated by Prof. Karen Marais

Students are selected through a formal application process and all costs are covered by their organizations. The workshop typically targets 3-5 year doctoral candidates, post-docs and recent graduates.

The NextProf Workshop was a two-day event to encourage talented women in engineering and science to consider academia as an exciting and rewarding career. The workshop discussed becoming a faculty member and life as a new faculty member. Topics included life in academia, starting a research group, writing a teaching philosophy, the faculty search process, service responsibilities, and networking with current Michigan faculty. This year's workshop was focused on women and around 50 women from all different areas of engineering attended.
