Congratulations to graduate student Devon Parkos who has been awarded a 2013 Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) from The National Science Foundation (NSF).
Devon is from Kewaunee, Wisconsin and graduated with his Bachelor's degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering at Purdue in fall 2011. He started work on his Master's degree in spring 2012 and expects to graduate during summer 2013 and he will then start working on his PhD.
Devon works on the simulation of hypersonic aerodynamics as a research assistant for Professor Alina Alexeenko. His research topic for the NSF GRFP falls under Geosciences – Atmospheric Chemistry, and involves calculating the amount of chemicals produced during the reentry of asteroid/comet impact debris. He also collaborated with Professor Jay Melosh from Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences and AAE by Courtesy, who also wrote recommendation letter and helped develop the proposal.
