Ultra-intense laser-plasma research (HEDP Laboratory)
High energy density conditions are found throughout the universe. Laboratory high energy density physics (HEDP) research is driven by ultra-intense lasers and discharge produced plasma machines (DPF, X-pinch etc.). CMUXE labs possess both TW laser facilities as well as high-temperature discharged produced plasma devices to perform research in the exciting field of HEDP research.
Currently the main application of HEDP is laboratory simulation of astrophysical environment. Ultra-intense laser interaction with matter is now widely recognized as one of the most rapidly growing research areas as well as one of the most promising for various applications viz. material processing, proton & electron beam generation, high energy photon beams, fs-LA-ICP-MS etc.
