Interview # 2: February 16, 3 PM EST with Dr. Joseph Jewell 
 
 
Dr. Jewell earned his bachelor’s degree in aeronautics and history and his Ph.D. in aeronautics from the California Institute of Technology. He earned master’s degrees in aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan and, as a Rhodes Scholar, engineering science from the University of Oxford. He completed a National Research Council postdoctoral fellowship. From 2014-2019, he was a research scientist at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, Hypersonic Sciences Branch, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. 
 
His research interests include hypersonic aerothermodynamics, boundary layer instability, transition and turbulence, low-disturbance wind tunnels, spacecraft re-entry aerodynamics, non-intrusive diagnostic methods, and hypervelocity/high-enthalpy gasdynamics. He serves on the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Aerodynamic Measurement Technology Technical Committee and the NATO Working Group on Hypersonic Boundary Layer Transition Prediction.
