Wi-Fi Connection

All through Purdue and at the reception venue, guests have access to free Wi-Fi connection. The network name is “attwifi.”

Venues and Transportation

Our Grand Challenge Workshop begins this year at 7:00 P.M., Monday, November 13, with a reception at the Wright Forestry Center. Note that Wright Forestry Center is in a rural setting, though only a 15 minute drive away from the Workshop venue of RSC. The cell phone connection tends to be spotty close to the Forestry Center.

Two shuttles will run from Purdue Memorial Union to Wright Forestry Center, at 6:30 P.M. and at 7:00 P.M. If you do not wish to take the shuttles, you can book Uber/Lyft.

Two shuttles will run back from the Wright Forestry Center to campus and to the hotels, one at 8:30 P.M. and the other at 9:00 P.M.

Technical Days

Technical sessions Tuesday and Wednesday will be at the Recreational Sports Center (RSC). Tuesday evening banquet will be at the Shively Club within the iconic football stadium, the Ross-Ade Stadium. Shuttle service will be provided from Purdue Memorial Union to RSC, back, and then to the Stadium and back.

Wednesday’s workshop will conclude by 3:00 P.M.

Hotels

We have secured hotel accommodations at the Union Club Hotel [WWW], Hilton Garden Inn [WWW], or Hampton Inn and Suites [WWW] (if we have communicated with you on this). The Union Club Hotel is bang in the middle of campus and a pleasant walk of 20 minutes to the Workshop venue. The other two hotels are outside but close to campus, and about a 10-minute drive away from the Workshop venue. Uber/Lyft are plentiful in this area.

Air travel

The Indianapolis airport (IND) is about 75 minutes southeast of our campus while Chicago (ORD) is about 2 hours northwest of us. We recommend flying into Indianapolis as it is much more convenient road trip-wise from there to Purdue.

Travel between airport and campus can be arranged through Lafayette Limo, Reindeer Shuttle, or Express Air Coach shuttle services. You don’t want to be driving on Purdue campus due to crowds, one-way streets, strict parking, and such fun arrangements. Consider that in your decision to rent a car from the airports.

Road travel

From several campuses in the mid-west, traveling by car to Purdue is a convenient option. The highways are not overly crowded and there are no twisting and turning, treacherous roadways to deal with. Such campuses include Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio State.

Please let us know your arrival and departure dates at your earliest opportunity, but no later than October 25.

Weather

Weather in Indiana can be a bit unpredictable, but average temps for this time of year are 50°/32°. So, bring out your musty winter jackets, and if you are feeling chilly, earmuffs and gloves. It is rare to get snow this early in winter. If it does snow, though, and you are feeling adventurous, slide or ski down Slayter Hill.
