Dr. Gkritza is a Professor of Civil Engineering (CE) and Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Purdue University. Prior to joining Purdue, Dr. Gkritza served on the faculty at Iowa State University and was the Director of the Sustainable Transportation Systems Program at the Institute of Transportation and Associate Director of the U.S. DOT Mid-American Transportation Center. Her research interests and experience are not limited to the traditional domains and methodologies in transportation engineering, but rather stem from disciplines in social sciences, such as regional economics, behavioral economics, spatial analysis, statistics, and econometrics. The tenets of her research philosophy are student mentoring, collaboration with other faculty across disciplines on research projects and dissemination efforts, and the active fostering of intellectual interaction and informed dialogue across interdisciplinary research areas. She teaches courses on transportation engineering, economic analysis of transportation investments, and transportation data analysis.
Dr. Gkritza is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Transportation Engineering in the area of transportation planning, modeling and economics, and a member of the of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committees on Freight Transportation & Regulation, and Agriculture & Transportation. She also served as the co-Chair of the TRB Committee on Transportation and Economic Development (2014-2020). She holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, an M.S.C.E. from the Virginia Polytechnic and State University, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University.
