Tongfei presents at the OIGP annual spring reception
Tongfei Liu presented his project "Play to Learn: A Gamified Digital Twin for Dynamic Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging" on April 22 at the Office of Interdisciplinary Graduate Program's (OIGP) annual Spring Reception.
The project combines transportation engineering, computer graphics technology, and human-computer interaction to address a well-documented gap in public awareness of Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT). Built in Unity, the simulation lets players drive an EV through a virtual environment with DWPT-equipped road segments. Charging is modeled on real-world engineering parameters: power output, system efficiency, lateral misalignment, and speed-dependent losses. Players observe their state of charge in real time and learn intuitively how driving behavior affects wireless energy transfer. As a part of the presentation, visitors were also invited to try the simulation hands-on — driving the virtual EV through charging zones and watching their battery respond in real time.
