At an upcoming conference in Uganda, Dr. Yuehwern Yih will give a presentation about making medical supply chains more efficient to improve maternal health.

The 11th Information and Communications Technologies for Development Conference (ICT4D) will take place in Kampala, Uganda, from April 30-May 2, 2019. Its theme is "Digital Trends and Innovations in Uganda". As part of the Supply Chain track of the conference, Dr. Yih will present a case study on improving maternal health by identifying true demands for medical supplies using triangulation laboratory tests, patient records, and supply stock levels. She will demonstrate an integrated solution, E+TRA (Electronic TRAnsparency & tracking) HEALTH, her web-based, multi-platform, centralized, offline-compatible electronic emergency response system. It reports and predicts true demands of essential medications for childbirth using cloud-based SMART Sync technology. E+TRA HEALTH is based on open sources platforms and is specifically designed based on healthcare personnel's workflow and Ugandan health facility settings.

ICT4D is an initiative aimed at bridging the digital divide (the disparity between technological "have" and "have not" geographic locations or demographic groups) and aiding economic development by ensuring equitable access to up-to-date communications technologies. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) include any communication device - encompassing radio, television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so on, as well as the various services and applications associated with them, such as videoconferencing and distance learning. Through its UN Development Programme, the United Nations actively promotes ICT4D as a powerful tool for economic and social development around the world.
