Faculty Responsibilities
All curricular changes in engineering must be approved by the Engineering Faculty.
These include approval of new courses, deletion of courses, changes in course descriptions/prerequisites/credit hours/times
of offering, changes in degree requirements, and new programs. Each change is described in an Engineering Faculty Document
(EFD) which goes through a review and approval process established by the Engineering Faculty (see Curricular Change Procedure flow-chart).
-
The EFD is submitted to the Engineering Advisory Committee (AC),
which reviews it and either approves or returns it for revision. Once approved by the AC,
the EFD is forwarded to the Committee on Faculty Relations (CFR).
-
CFR reviews the EFD and either approves it for distribution
to the Engineering Faculty or returns it for revision.
-
If one or more Engineering Faculty members requests so, a distributed EFD will be placed
on the agenda of the next Engineering Faculty meeting. Those present at the Engineering
Faculty meeting consider the EFD, approving or disapproving it. If, within two weeks of
posting of the EFD on the College of Engineering website and notification of the faculty
by e-mail, no Engineering Faculty member requests that the EFD be considered by the entire
Engineering Faculty, CFR is authorized to approve the EFD for the Engineering Faculty.
The ultimate authority and responsibility for review and approval
of all curricular changes reside with the Engineering Faculty.
Each faculty member is responsible for review of EFDs and deciding whether a given EFD
should be considered by the entire Engineering Faculty.
