Purdue College of Engineering Fall 2023 Wrapped

The individual success stories in the College of Engineering are too numerous to count but we've compiled a few of the greatest hits of the Fall '23 semester to celebrate Boilermaker Engineers. The hottest day of the semester (94°) was Aug 24th but that was no comparison to the fiery win of the Old Oaken Bucket on Nov 25th when Purdue beat IU (35-31) in Ross-Ade. College of Engineering set the tone for a great semester by welcoming a record percentage (34.5%) of women students to the Fall '23 FYE program. From the first day of classes on Aug 21st to the last day of finals on Dec 16th, you could find success in every building of the COE.  Have a look at the highlight reel:

The ASEE 2022 Report ranked Purdue No. 2 in the nation for highest number of engineering bachelor's degrees earned (2,674), up four spots from 2018.

In October, PSWE organized and supported 44 undergraduate students to attend the Society of Women Engineers flagship event, WE23, in Los Angeles, California.

(PEPC) awarded $12,600 in funding during the 2023 fall semester to assist College of Engineering student organizations.

With another successful semester in the books, it's now time to relax and recharge over winter break. Spring '24 will be another opportunity for Boilermaker Engineers to innovate, learn and inspire.

Anvil REU Summer Internship Program

Purdue University's Rosen Center for Advanced Computing (RCAC)<https://www.rcac.purdue.edu/about> CI-STEP student program is seeking students for Anvil Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)<https://www.rcac.purdue.edu/anvil/reu> paid internships for Summer '24.

This is an onsite program at the Big 10 Purdue University<https://www.purdue.edu/> (West Lafayette, Indiana) campus. This hands-on experiential summer program occurs over 11 weeks, where a $600/week stipend and housing in a Purdue residence hall is provided.

This REU program aims to develop the next generation workforce in advanced computing and cyberinfrastructure technologies. It offers students from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to build and support advanced research computing systems and scientific applications. As part of RCAC's decade-long successful student apprentice program, the REU students will learn by doing, working on the National Science Foundation funded Anvil system<https://www.rcac.purdue.edu/anvil> in a team environment and mentored by RCAC cyberinfrastructure professionals<https://www.rcac.purdue.edu/anvil/reu/mentors>.

Summer 2024 projects include:

  *   Streamlined Software: Automating user-requested software deployment on Anvil using agile technologies - The REU students will work on creating web-based tools to automate Spack configuration, software deployment, and testing.
  *   Unlocking the Impact of Data: The Power of the Dashboard - In this project, the REU students will break down barriers to data, making complex data more accessible, and transforming the way we handle user resource allocation and code performance information on Anvil.
  *   Gromacs Gateway: Creating User-friendly Molecular Simulations Online - This project sets an eye toward integrating Gromacs seamlessly with the Anvil OOD portal, where the REU students will start the process of creating a one-stop-shop for Anvil users Gromacs needs.
  *   AI-Powered Operational Data Analytics: Enhancing User Experience on Anvil - Using AI and machine learning, the REU students will build a replicable and explainable model to predict job queue times and integrate it into Anvil's job submission functions.

Every Boilermaker Engineer Codes (EBEC)

The College of Engineering is offering Entry-Level Programming in Python to help you build your skills and your resume.  During the fall and spring semester, this course is offered as a free non-credit course to all Purdue students, faculty, and staff. This is a low pressure, no stress version of the course. It will not appear on your transcript or affect your GPA, but learners who successfully complete the course requirements will earn a certificate issued by the College of Engineering.
