Two Beckman Institute members from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign recently visited the CONNplexity Lab to discuss collaborating on EEG-fMRI connectivity.

Dr. Jonathan Wirsich, a post-doctoral research associate from the Connect Lab, visited Purdue October 3-6 to discuss starting a new collaborative project. Then the lab's head, Assistant Professor Sepideh Friberg, joined them on October  6 for a brainstorming session about the project.

"In this project, we are looking at ways of jointly assessing multi-modal functional connectivity data of the human brain, precisely functional connectivity estimated from concurrent EEG and fMRI readings," explains Dr. Joaquín Goñi of the CONNplexity Lab. "This is an emergent collaboration that is going to be important for the lab."

Faculty from the two labs first made contact about a year ago when CONNplexity's Dr. Enrico Amico and Connect Lab's Dr. Wirsich met at a brain hackathon event. The current project will last approximately one year, and Goñi hopes that other collaborative projects with the Connect Lab and the Beckman Institute will follow.
