Bio

Justin C. Major is a first-year Engineering Education Ph.D student and National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. Before he came to Purdue University, Justin attended the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) where he studied Mechanical Engineering and Secondary Mathematics Education with a focus in K-12 Engineering Education. While in Nevada, Justin became an driving influence on the growth of the Northern Nevada STEM education community. As a Senior Mentor for FIRST Robotics, a board member for the local FIRST Robotics, MathCounts, and Science Olympiad, and the founding member of UNR's student-run STEM Volunteer Club, Justin created connections between various STEM organizations, businesses, political leaders, and the University to provide more opportunities for underrepresented students to engage in STEM. Throughout this time, Justin got involved in engineering education research. While Justin has researched a variety of topics, he is predominantly interested in understanding the experiences of low-socioeconomic students and how engineering can be made more inclusive to the low-socioeconomic population.
