Monique Ross, the first graduating student from the STRIDE group, has accepted a tenure track position at Florida International University in the School of Computing and the STEM Transformation Institute. In her new position, she will continue her work on understanding the experiences of women of color in engineering. She will also work across the School of Computing with the STEM Transformation Institute to make positive impact on student recruitment and rentention in her new role. The STEM Transformation Institute is a multidisciplinary collaboration across the Colleges of Arts, Sciences & Education, and Engineering & Computing for the research and development of effective educational practices that lead to substantial increases in the number of well-prepared STEM professionals, including teachers, graduating FIU. Ross’ dissertation focuses on the experiences of Black women engineering industry and is titled, “A unicorn’s tale: Examining the experiences of Black women in engineering industry.” Ross has been an essential member of the STRIDE group and has made scholarly impact through a submitted journal publication one in-progress manuscript and four peer-reviewed conference proceedings.
