Unmanaged Web Hosting

Hosting Options

Be aware that not using the ME Managed Research Lab Site Process or Managed Course Site Process will limit the support you recieve to general guidance - we do not update content or fix issues with self-managed sites.

ME supports 2 different ways of hosting your self-managed website: a traditional file-based Apache web server, and the Zope Content Management System run by ECN. Choosing Zope may involve more work to learn the system, but it requires less work to add wiki-like functionality, surveys, etc. to your site. Apache hosting is much more flexible, but will most likely require you to learn at least basic HTML to be able to edit your site. Apache also supports PHP and CGI scripting.

We provide more information about setting up your site with Apache here. For more information about Zope, check out the Zope section of the ECN Knowledge Base.
