About the Rapid Prototyping Lab

Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering Rapid Prototyping Lab (RPL), the place where virtual design comes to life as a physical reality.

The RPL has a range of different FDM 3D printing machines suitable for quickly prototyping designs that give this area great capacity and capability.

Students are trained in how to use the technologies of the lab by completing modules for them to be Purdue certified users.

The Rapid Prototyping Lab houses 5 different 3D printers:

To 3D print, students must submit or bring in a Binary Stereolithography file (.stl) that is scaled in millimeters with a high resolution.

The Mechanical Engineering 3D Print Lab is available to all current ME students. To gain access to the facility students must review the policies/procedures for the lab, read and understand the getting started manuals for the machines and software, and pass a Final Quiz. Students must be sure to also pass the M.E. Building Emergency Plan Quiz along with the Covid Quiz.
