Policies

  • The ME quota is allocated at the start of the semester, for printing material directly related to your ME classes. You can not buy more quota once it is exhausted.
  • Do not print entire books.
  • Do not print black & white material on a color printer; this exhausts your quota unnecessarily. We will not credit costs for B&W pages printed to a color printer.
  • Your quota may be used to print ONE copy of your thesis.
  • If you exhaust your ME quota you will need to use your ITaP quota and printers for the rest of the semester. You can buy more ITaP quota.
  • All printing is logged in detail. Come to the E-Shop if you need to review your print history or have questions about quota management.

Large Format “Poster” Printing

The ME E-Shop provides poster-printing services for research and academic purposes within the School (e.g. conferences and class poster displays). Download this document for details on scheduling, file submittal, and poster design guidelines. Questions can be directed to Michael Black.

You can also get posters printed at the Discovery Park poster lab. It is available for Discovery Park and Engineering faculty, staff, and students.

Quotas

ME has implemented printer quota system in an effort to reduce the costs incurred in supporting all of the printers and enhance functionality. The system is based on a dollar amount value rather than individual pages for B&W or color. With this, each page printed will have a specific cost associated based on the number of sides printed and whether color is used. This is checked prior to actually printing. The quotas given are for the entire semester and based on the prior quotas used so budget your printing accordingly.

As of January 2013, both Undergraduate & Graduate students are given a starting print quota of $30.

In addition, the use of quotas do not remove the standing ME printing policies. You are still only allowed to print academic related materials, with no copies and only one copy of your thesis. The printers are provided to support the formal courses offered by the department. Printers are not provided to support research activities, student organizations or as a copy machine.

As of January 2018, print management has migrated to the ECN/ITaP PaperCut system. You can check your balance and print history by logging in to PaperCut.

Requesting More Quota

If you find you need more print quota than you have been given, you may request more quota. Fill out the Print Quota Request Form and turn it in to the Electronics Shop (ME 2042). You can also pick up a copy of the form in the Electronics Shop. We will review the print history for your account and check it against the ME print polices. If there is a legitimate need and no violations of the print policy, more quota will be given. ME does not have a method for you to 'purchase' additional quota. Other options include using the ITAP print system in the ITAP labs or using personal printers. ITAP does have a mechanism for you to purchase additional quota if you run out of ITAP quota.
