RE: Prerequisite Changes

The Faculty of the School of Mechanical Engineering has approved the following changes in semester offerings. This action is now submitted to the Engineering Faculty with a recommendation for approval.

FROM:

ME 200 Thermodynamics I  Sem. 1 and 2. SS.  Class 3, cr. 3. Prerequisite: CHM 116. Co-requisite: MA 261

ME 270 Basic Mechanics II  Sem. 1 and 2 SS.  Class 3, cr. 3. Prerequisite: PHYS 152. Co-requisite: MA 261

TO:

ME 200 Thermodynamics I  Sem. 1 and 2. SS.  Class 3, cr. 3. Prerequisites: CHM 115.  Co-requisite: MA 261

ME 270 Basic Mechanics II  Sem. 1 and 2 SS.  Class 3, cr. 3. Prerequisite: PHYS 172. Co-requisite: MA 261

REASON: Due to the changes in the First Year program, CHM 116 will no be a prerequisite for ME 200 since it is not required of all students.  Instead, CHM 115 will be the prerequisite requirement, since it is required of all students.  The previous prerequisite for ME 270 (PHYS 152 Mechanics) will be changed to PHYS 172 Modern Mechanics, since PHYS 152 Mechanics has been formally changed to PHYS 172 Modern Mechanics.  These changes need to be made to the on-line course descriptions so they are consistent with our current practices.
