From:               The Department of Engineering Education

Date:                September 23, 2004

Subject:            New Undergraduate Course

The faculty of the Department of Engineering Education has approved the following new undergraduate ENE course.  This action is now submitted to the Engineering Faculty with a recommendation for approval.

ENE 498 – Undergraduate Research in Engineering Education

Sem. 1 and 2. SS.  Cr. 1-3.  May be repeated for credit.

Individual research projects for students with the approval of their academic advisors.  Requires prior approval of, and arrangement with, a       faculty research advisor in the Department of Engineering Education.  Written and oral final reports are required.

Reason:  Since the Division of Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies and the Department of Freshman Engineering merged to form the Department of Engineering Education (ENE), the faculty of ENE is developing a vigorous research program in engineering education.  This course gives engineering students (with approval of their academic advisors) the opportunity to engage in engineering education research.  In many of the research projects the ENE professor will collaborate with professors in the College of Engineering and/or from the School of Education.  Prerequisites, credit, and research plans will vary depending on the objectives of the research.
