Purdue Computational Energy and Propulsion Lab
The Purdue Computational Energy & Propulsion Lab (CEPL) was founded by Prof. Haifeng Wang in July 2012. The mission of CEPL is to engage
in frontier research and education in the field of energy conversion systems involving multi-scale multi-physical processes such
as molecular transport, fluid flow, turbulence, and chemical reaction.
We are particularly interested in the following areas:
- systematic and innovative approaches for conceiving, prototyping, developing, and validating new physical models for turbulent thermal systems, including enhancing predictability of existing models such as Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations, large-eddy simulations (LES), probability density function (PDF) methods, flamelet models;
- Employment of data-driven modeling and machine learning to assist the model development for turbulence and turbulent reactive flows.
- Enhancement of the affordability and reliability of numerical model predictions, by developing and integrating fast, accurate, and scalable numerical algorithms, by incorporating error estimate and uncertainty quantification in complex systems. We are also interested in the exploration of new ideas of model enhancement to produce "best" model predictions;
- Predictive studies of model problems, laboratory-scale test cases, and full-size realistic problems to provide physics-based understanding and solutions to the underlying problems.
