Welcome to the Smart Operations and Systems (SOS) Lab

In the Smart Operations and Systems (SOS) Lab, we work on research motivated from real-world problems.  Often those problems are complex, ill-structured, dynamic, and with much unknown and uncertainty.  To participate in those research projects, in addition to strong technical background and communication skills, the ability to collaborate with researchers, practitioners, and partners from different sectors and regions is essential.  Among many current projects, I am investigating the disparate cancer treatment experiences of Indianapolis women, collaborating on saving the lives of premature babies in Malawi by redesigning the layout and furniture for Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) facilities, and using systems engineering to improve Ugandan health supply chain for pregnancy and delivery with funding from a 2017 Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grand Challenge award. It's an exciting time to be in healthcare engineering and to "Rethink IE" in the Purdue University School of Industrial Engineering!

Are you interested in using industrial engineering to improve healthcare and save lives? Please email me.
