Jiselle Thornby is from Devils Lake, North Dakota, and she completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of North Dakota. She is co-advised by Dr. Stephen Beaudoin (ChE) and Dr. Jeffrey Rhoads (ME) and she works on the additive manufacturing of energetic materials. In her free time, Jiselle enjoys hiking, traveling, card games, and playing trumpet and clarinet. 

Leads GSO meetings, oversees planning and execution of Symposium, liaises with the School of Chemical Engineering administration on behalf of the graduate student body.

My name is Angelique Klimek and I am the Vice President of GSO. I am a second-year graduate student co-advised by Dr. Beaudoin and Dr. Piercey working on synthesis of energetic materials. My hobbies include food, games and pipe organs.

Assists President in overseeing event planning; manages finances for Symposium and events throughout the year; supports committees in events planning and operations when necessary.

Tyler is from Aurora, IL. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in 2021. He is co-advised by Dr. Stephen Beaudoin (CHE) and Dr. Chelsea Davis (MSE). Tyler’s current research centers on visualizing stresses via cutting of an elastomer utilizing mechanophores. In his free time, Tyler is an avid homebrewer, and enjoys 3D printing and DIY projects.

Responsible for hybrid social/professional development events like Truth and Beauty seminars and Future Faculty Lunches.

Sarah Gustafson is originally from Elgin, South Carolina, and graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Carolina in 2022. At Purdue, she is advised by Dr. Gounder and her research focuses on thermal catalysis and zeolite synthesis. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys reading, playing piano, and exploring the outdoors.  

Responsible for educational outreach events such as the After School Science Education Program at Murdock Elementary.

Marisa Egan is from Naperville, Illinois, and graduated with a B.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from The Ohio State University in 2022. She is advised by Dr. Julie Liu and working on the development of an in vitro tissue model for drug testing. In her free time, Marisa enjoys swimming, reading, and traveling.

Responsible for sustainability efforts within the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, including recycling initiatives and clothing drives.

Begum is from Istanbul, Turkey. She graduated from Bogazici University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. She is currently advised by Dr. Savoie and works on computational design of mixed conducting polymers. Her hobbies include traveling, dancing, watching movies, playing sports, and food.

Responsible for social (i.e. non-sports related) events throughout the year (e.g. quiz bowl, ice skating, mini golf, bowling, happy hour).

Isaac Wheeler is from Orem, Utah and graduated with a BS in ChemE from Brigham Young University in 2021. He is a third-year student advised by Dr. Vivek Narsimhan (ChE) and Dr. Alina Alexeenko (ChE, AAE), and studies the heat and mass transfer aspects of pharmaceutical lyophilization (freeze drying). He loves spending time with his 2-year-old, playing video games and board games, and running half marathons.

Serves as Voting Representative on graduate committee; speaks with students throughout the year to allow graduate students to provide input (both anonymous and otherwise) regarding what they would like to see from GSO or how GSO could better represent their interests as ChE grad students

Ted Kim is from Plano, Texas, and he completed his Bachelor’s in Science in Chemistry from University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor’s in Science in Chemical Engineering from University of Houston. Upon graduating from University of Texas at Austin, he worked as a chemist at a pharmaceutical company in Houston and was an Army officer in the National Guard. He is currently a 2nd year graduate student in Dr. Jeffrey Miller’s group, and he works on non-zeolitic heterogeneous catalyst for hydrocarbon production. Ted enjoys working out, watching/playing sports, playing with this dogs, reading, and video games.

Contacts new first-year students throughout the summer to make sure any questions about moving to Lafayette, starting at Purdue, etc. are answered; leads planning of welcome picnic for first-year students; represents first-years throughout the school year at graduate committee meetings; organizes mentor-mentee program.

Esra is from Canakkale, Turkey. She did her undergrad and master’s from Bogazici University in 2019 and 2022, respectively. She joined Purdue in the Fall of 2022 and now she is a member of the Savoie group. Her research area is understanding the reaction mechanism of electrolytes in high concentrated lithium-ion batteries. In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, playing games, reading, and watching cat videos.

Zachary is from Henderson, Kentucky and graduated with a B.S. in chemical engineering from University of Kentucky in 2022. He is advised by Dr. Liu studying cartilage tissue engineering and molecular cloning of recombinant proteins. Zachary's hobbies include playing board games, reading comic books, and cooking. 

Represents ChE GSO in PGSG, which hosts university-wide social events for graduate students (e.g. the grad student semi-formal at Lafayette Brewing Co.), provides travel grants and other forms of financial assistance for grad students, and advocates graduate students' interests in Purdue policies.

Sarah is from San Antonio, Texas, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Purdue University in 2023. She is a first-year Ph.D. member of the Beaudoin Research group. Her research revolves around the manufacturing of defense-critical chemicals. In her free time, she has a love of fun colored hair dye, dungeons and dragons, and cooking tasty meals.

Responsible for sports events throughout the year, including intramural sports teams organization, informal kickball and frisbee games, etc.

Juan is from Bogota, Colombia. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogota Campus. He is a third year Ph.D. student in Chemical Enginering at Purdue, working in the solar energy group with Prof. Rakesh Agrawal. Beyond trying to improve the performance of solar cells in the lab, he enjoys dancing, cooking, and eating. In particular, he likes to drink his Colombian beans in multiple ways for a good cup of arabica coffee.

Promote a more diverse and inclusive atmosphere for graduate students while they pursue their studies, facilitate cross-cultural exchange within the diverse student body, engage faculty in the same.

Austin Choi is from Bartlett, Illinois, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 2021. At Purdue, he is a member of the Vilas Pol Energy Research group working on various electrode and electrolyte materials for potassium-ion batteries. Outside of research, Austin plays piano for the Purdue Tower of Power jazz band and is a member of the club table tennis team.
