pathogens

Aired: October 8, 2014 from noon to 1pm Eastern

The microbiology in water is often a mystery. Clear water can and will contain millions of bacteria. Sometimes we get sick drinking it and sometimes we don’t. Dr. Ron Turco will discuss the fate and behavior of bacteria (microorganisms) in open water.

Meet the Presenter:

Ron Turco, Professor, Department of Agronomy, Purdue University

Dr. Ronald Turco is the Director of the Indiana Water Resources Research Center (IWRRC.org).  His research is concentrated on understanding how the behavior of microorganism and the processes they control in natural systems, is influenced by human activity.  In particular his group has used enzyme activity, phospholipid analysis, and molecular techniques to understand community structure and function as impacted by management and introduction of materials.
