Purdue's Two-Stage Ditch: What we've learned so far about what to plant and impact on nutrients

Purdue's Two-Stage Ditch

Aired: May 7, 2014

Webinar recording (full-screen view available)

Presentation slides (in pdf):

  1. Ditch Design and Construction, by Jane Frankenberger
  2. Water Quality Impacts, by Laura Bowling
  3. Vegetation Establishment, by Andi Hodaj

A two-stage ditch installed at Throckmorton Purdue Agricultural Center near Lafayette in September 2012 is beginning to show impacts.  In this webinar we describe the design and installation of the ditch, as well as the research that is being conducted on the ditch performance. Our research questions include comparing different plants on the benches of two-stage ditches, determining the ditch impacts on nutrient loads, and assessing its effect on fish, and preliminary results will be presented.
