Three uSMART graduate students won poster presentation awards at the International Society on Industrial Ecology (ISIE 2019) in Beijing.

The uSMART group members presented a total of two oral presentations and four posters, and received three awards.

  • Mustafa Lokhandwala's paper titled "Dynamic ride sharing using traditional taxis and shared autonomous taxis - A case study of NYC" received the 2018 Best Paper Award from the Chinese Society of Industrial Ecology (CSIE).
  • Zhaoyu Kou's poster titled "Comparing dock-based, dockless, and hybrid bike share systems regarding bike supply: A case study of Chicago" received an Honorable Mention in the Student Poster Competition from the Sustainable Urban Systems section.
  • Li Song's poster titled "Quantifying the U.S. Households' Environmental Footprints" received an Honorable Mention in the Student Poster Competition from the Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment Section.

The ISIE conference took place at Tsinghua University in Beijing from July 7-11, 2019. Its theme was "Industrial Ecology for Eco-civilization". To transform industrial civilization into eco-civilization, the world needs concept  breaking, theoretical innovation, methodological support, and tools development. The conference promoted the use of industrial ecology in research, education, policy, community development, and industrial practices.
