The Purdue Industrial Engineering Graduate Student Organization (IE GSO) held a reception to honor Hua Cai, assistant professor of industrial engineering, as the 2018 recipient of the IE Outstanding Graduate Mentor award.

Cai received the award for her exceptional mentoring capabilities and was nominated by her research group, the Urban Sustainability Modeling & Analysis Research Team (uSMART). Her team wrote the inscription on the plaque she received: "To the person who gives us direction, supports our career goals, respects us and helps us out as a friend. You are truly an exceptional graduate student mentor."  She was honored at a reception on April 13 in Grissom Hall's Boehm Cafe.

This award was created by the College of Engineering (CoE) to help graduate students recognize fantastic mentors for specific characteristics. At least three graduate students must nominate the winning mentor.
