Student Teams
In addition to the normal engineering curriculum, Purdue students participate in many extracurricular activities, including racing teams. All teams are open to students in all majors, whether in Indianapolis or West Lafayette.
Motorsports Engineering Club
Motorsports Engineering Club is the largest student organization in Indianapolis. We bring together students from diverse disciplines to design, build, and compete in racing events like Purdue Grand Prix and autocross. From concept to competition, we push the limits of performance and innovation.
Formula SAE
Members of Purdue Formula SAE team create a well-designed car each year by combining the theory learned in class with hands-on skills. Students utilize engineering skills and state of the art tools to design and verify the new car. Primarily mechanical engineering students, but all are welcome.
Baja SAE
We design, build, test, and finally race a new off-road vehicle every year. The competition give us the opportunity to apply the concepts we have learned in class to a real-world problem. We use many design techniques, like CAD and FEA. We must also excel in teamwork, planning, and advertising.
Purdue Electric Racing
Purdue Electric Racing builds a Formula-style car with electric motors, powered by a 600-volt battery pack, going 0-60 in under 4 seconds. Our vision is to deliver the most competitive car by providing an environment for educational, professional, and personal growth.
Purdue Grand Prix
Established in 1958, the Purdue Grand Prix enables student teams to race gas-powered go-karts on a custom-built 1/4-mile track on campus. Hundreds of students compete every year in the "Greatest Spectacle in College Racing."
evGrandPrix
The Purdue evGrandPrix is the ultimate competition for electric kart teams, combining speed, strategy, and innovation. Teams from across the country design, build, and race their karts while competing in technical inspections, practice sessions, sprint qualifiers, and the final championship race.
Purdue AI Racing
The Indy Autonomous Challenge showcases the world’s fastest autonomous race cars, on world-famous tracks like IMS, Laguna Seca, and Monza. The driver is replaced with an array of sensors that act as the eyes and ears of the vehicle, feeding data to student-designed control algorithms.
Purdue Solar Racing
Purdue Solar Racing designs, builds, and races solar-powered vehicles in national and international competitions. In addition to developing advanced vehicle systems, we participate in outreach events to educate the local community about the possibilities of sustainable transportation.
Women in Motorsports Council
WiMC connects women at Purdue interested in motorsports so they can empower each other. We collaborate with the leaders of Purdue's motorsports teams to create an inclusive and supportive community in West Lafayette and Indianapolis, providing professional resources to succeed in the industry.
Electric Vehicle Club
Electric Vehicle Club (EVC) is focused on providing students with hands-on engineering experience through electric vehicle design projects. We are a multi-faceted organization with a variety of projects available to appeal to a wide range of student interests.
Autonomous Motorsports Purdue
Autonomous Motorsports Purdue (AMP) is a founding member of the Autonomous Karting Series (AKS), where various universities design and build a driverless go-kart and compete against each other. Competing karts are tested for their performance and reliability.
Sim Racing Club
Purdue's Sim Racing Clubs host more than 150 students in both Indianapolis and West Lafayette, competing in iRacing and other platforms as drivers and strategists. Some utilize Purdue's advanced simulator rigs to compete in virtual races, while others participate at home using their own computers.
Motorsports at Purdue
Motorsports at Purdue (MAP) is one of the fastest-growing organizations, connecting students to various racing industries. MAP specializes in both Gas and EV Karting, fielding entries into events such as the Purdue Grand Prix and the Purdue EV Grand Prix.
