Eligibility

To be eligible for the Kiewit Scholars Program, participants shall demonstrate the following characteristics:

  1. Have successfully completed their first year of courses by the end of the Spring 2025 semester
  2. Demonstrate academic merit by achieving a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  3. Be a student at the Purdue University West Lafayette campus
  4. Be enrolling for their sophomore year in one of the following categories:
    1. Enrolling in one of the eligible programs listed below in Fall 2025
    2. Applying to one of the eligible programs listed below through the Transition to Major process for Fall 2025
    3. Have an interest in construction and/or design and be enrolling in a major in the College of Engineering or Polytechnic Institute
  5. Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident alien, or alien lawfully present in and able to domicile in the United States under federal immigration laws. International students who hold F, J, and some other visa types are not eligible.

Eligible Majors

Rising sophomores enrolled in Purdue University’s College of Engineering or Polytechnic Institute in the following majors related to construction and design are eligible to be Kiewit Scholars:

Selection

Candidates will be identified through an application process. The selection committee will review student applications and invite a subset of applicants to on-campus interviews in the Spring semester. Final selections will be made in the Spring semester and will take effect in Fall 2025.

Selection criteria will prioritize students who demonstrate interest in the field of design and construction, show commitment to leadership and civic engagement, and have a desire for continued learning and professional growth.

Award Renewal

Award renewal eligibility based on student progress on their eight-semester plan of study is as follows:

  • Rising Sophomores – initial award for one Academic Year, may be renewed for up to a total of 6 semesters of funding.
  • Renewal is based upon continuing to meet eligibility criteria, as listed above, and scholar participation.
