Transmittable Cattle Diseases

Background

  • A number of cattle diseases can be transmitted to man, including:
    • Brucellosis - (known as Bang's disease), transmitted by handling dead or aborted calves that were infected.
    • Tuberculosis - spread by drinking the raw milk of infected cows.
    • Leptospirosis - spread to man through ponds and streams contaminated by urine from sick cattle.
    • Ringworm - a fungus that is spread to man by direct contact.
    • Salmonella - a bacterium that can be spread to humans while caring for sick animals.
