Safety When Filling Grain Bins

Tips

• Make certain that portable elevators are stable.
• Lower portable elevators before moving them, being especially aware of overhead power lines.
• Enter a grain storage bin
  1. only after all unloading equipment has been stopped and switches are locked in the "off" position and
  2. only if you're attached to a lifeline and someone is standing by to help in case of a cave-in.
• If grain in a bin should "bridge," break it down only from the outside with a pole.
• Keep children away from a grain storage bin, making certain they understand that it's dangerous and no place to play.
