Deans’ Message

We are proud of the research accomplishments of our faculty, students, and staff and are pleased to introduce the first issue of Discovery: Innovation@Purdue Engineering, a new Purdue College of Engineering publication focused on advances in research. The quarterly e-publication will feature recent research achievements in the College and highlight faculty and student research, including collaborations with international partners. Significant initiatives in engagement with industry and in translating research to practice will also be spotlighted.

A core component of the hiring strategy for the College of Engineering Strategic Growth builds on existing strengths in research, with the goals of moving both in new directions and to new levels of preeminence. Our lead article in this issue features one of the preeminent teams selected in 2014, addressing the global issue of spectrum management. We also recognize a junior faculty member who is achieving early success in the emerging field of soft robotics, and the entrepreneurship of our graduate students. The Colombia-Purdue Institute (CPI), a recent hallmark of Purdue engagement, has advanced to include substantive research collaborations between faculty and students at Purdue and Colombian universities. Two faculty members provide an overview of the unique contributions of these partnerships in advancing cutting edge research.

Welcome to Discovery: Innovation@Purdue Engineering.
