Description:

This student team will focus on screening isolates in the Kriebel Herbarium living culture collection for the presence of novel bioactive compounds. The team will have access to a world class culture collection and will assist in developing and trouble-shooting new high-throughput technologies for rapidly screening a wide taxonomic range of fungi. Students will develop hard skills in microbiological and molecular biological techniques and will learn how to handle, identify and preserve living microbial strains and how to apply cutting-edge methodologies to screen for novel bioactive compounds.

Prerequisites:

At least one semester of a biological, chemistry, pharmaceutical or related lab course.
