High Performance Computing Clusters

The Mechanical Engineering Tribology Lab places a high importance on the corroboration between analytical and experimental findings. With over 7,500 square feet readily available, we have the ability to construct most, if not any, custom or commercial test rig to conduct an experimental investigation on a topic of interests. Yet, to achieve our corroboration with our experimental findings, we’ve invested greatly in high performance computing. We have 11 servers that provide us with state of the art high performance computing. These servers are used to run various models such as ABAQUS models, Matlab codes, C++ codes and any other developed computational models. These servers are capable of running various models at the same time using different number of threads and cpus per run. Therefore, these high performance CPUs reduce the computational costs and allow to run larger models in a efficient time.

Tormach PCNC

With the ever-growing need for rapid fabrication, whether it's for proof of concept or time constraints, having the ability to machine parts in-house is extremely valuable. The Tormach PCNC 1100 suits METL’s needs allowing one to machine new ideas at a moment’s notices. With the ability to cut through the toughest materials – stainless, titanium, and even pre-hardened tool steel – the 4 axis PCNC 1100 has become a tool the METL group couldn’t live without.

Four Post Lift

The four post lift is a convenient tool at METL's disposal. Key characteristics are:

  • 9,000 lb. Capacity
  • Rolling Jack Tray
  • Integrated Bottle Jack: 4,500 lb. Capacity

Conference Rooms and Offices

The Mechanical Engineering Tribology Lab utilizes two office spaces (on and off campus), capable of hosting conferences, symposiums, and other events. Several conference rooms can accommodate large groups. Free wi-fi is provided by Purdue University. There is no shortage of space to demonstrate the work we do as well as collaborate with those interested in our work.
