Seminar for Top Engineering Prospects (STEP)

WHAT IS STEP?
Our program provides a dynamic, one week opportunity to explore the many disciplines within engineering and the exciting future career opportunities that they bring. During your week in the STEP program, you will be placed on a team of four students with whom you will learn fundamental engineering design skills that you will put to use in a multifaceted engineering design competition. You will attend various activities, engineering lectures, and partake in tours of both Purdue and a local engineering company, all of which will give you the feel of being an engineering student. With this experience you will be able to get a glimpse into what campus life is all about.
ELIGIBILITY
The program welcomes all rising High School Seniors (graduating in Spring of 2017) who are considering any engineering discipline as their college major. Ideally, you will have completed three years of high school mathematics and one year of chemistry or physics by the summer of 2016.
COST AND REGISTRATION
STEP 2016 Sessions:
Session 1: July 10th - 16th
Session 2: July 17th - 23rd
Session 3: July 24th - 30th
Sessions begin Sunday afternoon and conclude after lunch on Saturday.
Your registration fee will cover all cost of activities, room and board along with transportation while at camp for the one-week program. Full payment is due two weeks after notice of acceptance and is NON-REFUNDABLE.
- Early Registration: $ TBD (December 1, 2015 - January 31, 2016)
- Regular Registration: $ TBD (February 1 - April 30, 2016)
- Late Registration: $ TBD (After April 30, 2016)
*Need based scholarships for STEP are available. Contact us for details once you have submitted your completed STEP application including all standardized test scores.
HOUSING
Campers will be housed on campus sharing a suite-style, air-conditioned room with another STEP participant. Our program does not allow roommate requests. All bed linens in addition to towels and washcloths are provided.
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation to and from Purdue is the responsibility of the participant. Once on campus we will have a shuttle service provided on the day of arrival and departure. All transportation during your stay is provided.

MEALS
Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included in your registration fee. This starts with Sunday Dinner and ends with Saturday Lunch. Please see the STEP itinerary for a more detailed schedule. WHAT TO EXPECT AT STEP?
Engineering takes teamwork to bring creative ideas to life, so during your stay, you’ll be involved in collaborative classroom experiences that will help you develop vital skills you’ll need as an engineer. These skills include creativity, communication, design, and analytical modeling. They will be taught to you by world renowned Purdue faculty member, Purdue engineering Students and guest lecturers throughout the week. Your team’s skills will be put to test as you create and optimize innovative, alternative solutions to your week-long competitive design challenges.
Participants will select two discipline tours within the College of Engineering (Aeronautics and Astronautics, Agricultural, Biological, Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Computer, Industrial, Materials, Mechanical and Nuclear) to help you learn how as a future engineer, you can be involved with solving the complex grand challenges facing our global society. In addition, you will select a local company to visit so you can see first-hand engineering in action.
Ultimately, our goal is to give you a taste of what it is like to “be an engineer” as well as an informal experience of being an engineering student at Purdue. It’s a full and exciting week with your team from Sunday afternoon through lunch on Friday.

APPLICATION
We will continue accepting applications until all of the participant slots have been filled. Once all spots have been filled qualified applicants will be placed on our waitlist. Since qualified participants are selected on a competitive basis, all portions of the application must be complete, including the Standardized Test Score (i.e.., PSAT, SAT or ACT tests) section, before we will consider you for admittance. If you have not taken the PSAT, SAT or ACT, but plan to do so in the near future, please indicate the date you expect to receive your scores in the space provided. Please note that your application will not be considered complete until all components of your application are received by the STEP program.
You will be notified by email of your entry status after your completed application (this includes test scores) is received and a decision has been made.
