GoT develops models, algorithms, controls, and market approaches for a grid facing rapid load growth and increasing operational complexity. Current work focuses on large loads, data centers, distributed resources, interconnection, and AI-enabled grid operations. Projects are selected with industry members and designed around decisions utilities and grid operators face today. GoT Consortium members have selected three research projects focused on data-center dynamics and stability, data-center flexibility, and DER firmness and reliability.
Challenges and Opportunities
Large new loads can arrive faster than traditional grid planning and construction processes. At the same time, flexible demand, distributed resources, advanced power electronics, and AI create new operating options.
GoT studies how to use these capabilities without compromising reliability or affordability. It also develops faster and more transparent planning and interconnection methods.
