Robert H. Buckman (BSChE ’59) and wife Joyce A. Mollerup wanted to open windows of opportunity for special Purdue Engineering students who make a difference and deserve to be celebrated.

“The greatest satisfaction we have ever had is watching other people grow to be the best that they can be,” Buckman said.

The Purdue Engineering Fellows best display that distinction.

Since 2019, select seniors in the College of Engineering have been named fellows. The honor recognizes students with a well-rounded set of achievements and impact, ranging from academic research to humanitarian work, who are considered the best student representatives of the College of Engineering.

Students are nominated as juniors by faculty and staff. A committee makes the final decision on the class.

Through the generosity of Buckman and Mollerup, fellows receive $25,000 after graduation to pursue any future endeavor.

Some use the money for graduate school, some for travel, some to pay off any student loans.

“Our hope is that the award will continue to stimulate Purdue Engineering students to think outside of the box of conventional thinking,” Buckman said.
