Prof. Adams's Bio:

I have a background in nursing and health policy with over 15 years of bedside and leadership experience in hospitals, primarily in the emergency department. I have expertise in community engaged research, coalitions that address substance use, and recovery-oriented systems of care. I am a Health Equity Faculty Champion and health equity is foundational to all of my work. My work incorporates concepts from systems thinking, and complex adaptive models, the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology, and end-user driven technology design. As an associate member of the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering (RCHE), I work closely with engineers to develop innovative tools for use by communities and organizations.  In this work with engineering, my focus on including human factors and end-user perspectives in new technology development, ensures that there is equitable access and acceptability across diverse populations. I also provide technical assistance to two Native American tribes in North Dakota as they develop community-based recovery-oriented systems of care to address substance use.
