Learn the benefits of recognizing emotion, practicing self-compassion and being in the moment. This presentation relates mindfulness to everyday activities such as relationships, thoughts, and stress to help you learn how the skill of being mindful can help you relax and take back the present moment.

This event is hosted by Vanessa Pacheco. Pacheco is the Assistant Director for Health & Wellness Programs here at Purdue University, where she supports student leaders in becoming active participants in their own well-being. This includes guided meditations, goal-setting, understanding their values, and more. At this critical time, she believes that is vital that students have access to resources that allow them to be their full selves while on campus. After obtaining her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, Pacheco began her career as a Coordinator for Cross-Cultural Engagement, teaching courses in intergroup dialogue and social identity. Pacheco earned her M.S.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs in 2015 from Indiana University before embracing Lafayette as her home. As the founding staff advisor for the ACE Campus Food Pantry at Purdue, she has been the grateful recipient of many local awards, including SLISU in 2018 and Woman of Innovation from the local YWCA. Vanessa enjoys gardening, watching horror films with her dog Huey, and being a model citizen. Above all, she loves all things pizza.
