Estus H. and Vashti L. Magoon Award for Research Excellence
Description: The Purdue University College of Engineering Magoon Awards are given to outstanding research assistants in memory of Estus H. and Vashti L. Magoon, who have influenced the lives of many engineering researchers through this award. This award is made possible through the generous Estus H. and Vashti L. Magoon endowment and the College of Engineering.
Award: Each Research Excellence awardee receives $2,000, a certificate, recognition at an awards luncheon, and in a video produced specifically for this event.
Eligibility:
- Current PhD candidate in good academic standing who has passed the preliminary exam.
- Has published at least one peer-reviewed journal article or conference proceeding. *For non-publicly published articles, certifications from appropriate authorities are needed. (Priority should be given to papers where the student is the lead author and to students who have also presented their work nationally.)
Selection Criteria: Peer-reviewed publications (impact and number); Awards for research, including best paper and outstanding presentations; National Presentations; Leadership within a research group or community (including mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students in their research); Academic achievement; Participation in professional societies; Patents awarded.
Nomination Package to Use for School-level Review:
- A letter from the student's major professor addressing the selection criteria.
- A copy of one paper accepted or published in a peer-reviewed journal or conference proceeding.
- Student’s CV
- Student’s graduate transcript.
The school will submit to the College by the appropriate deadline.
