Both degrees are part of the Elmore Family School of ECE, but they differ in focus. Electrical Engineering emphasizes hardware, circuits, signals, and physical systems, while Computer Engineering bridges hardware and software with a stronger focus on computer architecture, embedded systems, and digital design. Not sure which is right for you? Come talk to an Ambassador at our Drop-In Hours, or send us an email!

An ECE degree opens doors across virtually every industry, from semiconductor and defense to software, healthcare, finance, and beyond. At Purdue, you're not just getting a degree, you're gaining access to a network of world-class corporate partners who actively invest in Purdue ECE students through initiatives like Boilermaker Circuit and state-of-the-art facilities. These companies aren't just recruiting students, they're spending resources to be here because they believe in Purdue ECE graduates.

After completing the First Year Engineering program, sophomore year is where your ECE journey truly begins. You'll take foundational courses like Circuit Fundamentals I and II (ECE 20001 and 20002), Python for Data Science, Advanced C Programming, and Digital Design. These courses are intentionally designed to build the technical foundation you'll rely on throughout your entire ECE career.

Absolutely! Research opportunities are available from day one. Students can get involved through programs like EPICS, Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP), the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF), and hands-on First Year Engineering courses that introduce real research and design challenges early in your academic journey.

Purdue has over 1,000 registered student organizations, and if the one you're looking for doesn't exist yet, you can start it yourself! The Elmore Family School of ECE also sponsors several student organizations specifically for ECE students. Check out some of the clubs and organizations here.

Purdue ECE students have access to a wide range of academic support resources including Community, Assistance and Resources for Engineering Students (CARES), free tutoring, Supplemental Instruction (SI), dedicated recitation spaces, and office hours with both professors and teaching assistants. You're never on your own here. There's always someone ready to help!

Keep an eye on your Purdue inbox for our recruitment email with details on the application process and timeline. We'd love to have you on the team, and in the meantime, feel free to stop by our Drop-In Hours or email us to learn more about what we do!
