David Corti named head of the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering
David S. Corti has been named the next Jay and Cynthia Ihlenfeld Head of the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, effective Aug. 17, 2026.
Corti has been a member of the Purdue faculty since 1998. He is widely recognized for his research in molecular thermodynamics, nucleation, colloidal dispersions and molecular simulation, and for his exceptional commitment to undergraduate education. A highly regarded teacher and mentor, he has played a major role in shaping chemical engineering education at Purdue, including through his role as Director of Undergraduate Studies for the School.
Corti's research focuses on the thermophysical and kinetic properties of soft condensed-phase systems, including liquids and colloidal dispersions, using theoretical and simulation methods to understand how interparticle forces shape system behavior across a range of time and length scales. His work spans the stability of colloidal dispersions, Hamaker constant determination using atomic force microscopy, the coalescence of drops and bubbles, and molecular thermodynamics.
His teaching contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including the 2023 Norris Shreve Prize for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching and the Philip C. Wankat Graduate Teaching Award in 2017-18 and 2022-23. He is also an NSF CAREER Award recipient and a Purdue University Faculty Scholar.
Corti earned his B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991 and his PhD from Princeton University in 1997.
Corti previously served as Interim Head of the Davidson School. In his new role, he will provide leadership for the school's faculty, staff, academic programs and strategic initiatives, working closely with the College of Engineering's Executive Leadership Team to advance the mission and vision of both the School and the College.
"The Davidson School of Chemical Engineering has a long tradition of excellence. I am humbled to serve as the school's next Head and excited to build upon this legacy. I look forward to working closely with our outstanding faculty, staff, students and alumni to capitalize on new opportunities for growth and impact."
