Faculty
Vaneet Aggarwal received the BTech degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Kanpur, India, in 2005 and the MA and PhD degrees from Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, USA, in 2007 and 2010, respectively, all in Electrical Engineering. He is currently a Professor in the School of Industrial Engineering, and the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (by courtesy) at Purdue University, where he has been since Jan 2015. He is also affiliated with Purdue Blockchain Lab, Purdue Computational Science and Engineering Interdisciplinary Program (CS&E), Purdue Energy Center, Purdue Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS), and Purdue Center for Resilient Infrastructures, Systems, and Processes (CRISP). He is currently a Visiting Professor in CS Program at KAUST, Saudi Arabia. His research interests are in machine learning, reinforcement learning, and quantum computing.
Prior to joining Purdue, he was a Senior Member of the Technical Staff - Research for five years with AT&T Labs Research, Bedminster, NJ, USA (2010-2014). Dr. Aggarwal has been Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University (2013-2014), a VAJRA Adjunct Professor in the Department of Electrical Communications Engineering at IISc Bangalore (2018-2019), Visiting Professor at Plaksha University (2022-2023), and Adjunct Professor in CS at IIIT Delhi (2022-2023). Dr. Aggarwal received the Princeton University's Porter Ogden Jacobus Honorific Fellowship in 2009, AT&T Vice President Excellence Award in 2013, AT&T Senior Vice President Excellence Award in 2014, and Purdue University's Most Impactful Faculty Innovator award in 2020. In addition , he received IEEE Jack Neubauer Memorial Award in 2017, IEEE Infocom Workshop Best paper award in 2018, and Neurips Workshop Best paper award in 2021. He was an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Green Communications and Networking (2017-2020) and IEEE Transactions on Communications (2017-2022).
He is a senior member of IEEE since 2015. He is currently serving on the Editorial Board of the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking (2019-current), and is co-Editor-in-Chief of the ACM Journal on Transportation Systems (2022-current). He is 2024-2025 IEEE Comsoc Distinguished Lecturer. He has Erdos Number 3, Hawking Number 3, and Einstein Number 4.

Fanglin Bao was a postdoc, joint with Prof. Zubin Jacob from 2019-2020. He is now doing his postdoc at Purdue University.
Arnob Ghosh received Ph.D. in Electrical and Systems Engineering Department, University of Pennsylvania in summer 2016 and was a postdoc from 2016-2019. His research interests are applications of pricing mechanisms, game theory, and network economics to smart grids, internet of things, and communication networks.
Ke Liu received his Ph.D. in Information Engineering from Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2013 and is currently an Assistant Professor at the Advanced System Research Center Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has been a postdoc from 2017-2019.
Graduated PhD Students
Abubakr Omar Al-Abbasi received PhD in IE in Fall 2019. He obtained a BSc and an MSc in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt in 2010 and 2014, respectively. He was a Ross Fellow at Purdue, and received certificate of honorable mention for Outstanding IE Graduate Student.
Mridul Agarwal received Ph.D. in ECE in Summers 2022. He is currently an Applied Scientist at Amazon.
Mehdi Ashraphijuo received a Ph.D. in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University. He was co-advised Prof. Xiaodong Wang, and had a GPA of 4.00. He is a winner of “Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship 2014” (won $100K) and a finalist of “Bell Labs Prize 2014” competition. He is currently working at Goldman Sachs.
Anis Elgabli received a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University in 2018. He was co-advised with Prof. Mark R. Bell. His research interests are in renewable energy, video streaming, and wireless networks.
Abhishek Umrawal received a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University in 2023. He was the recipient of Purdue Bilsland Fellowship in 2022. He is currently an Assistant Professor (Teaching) at UIUC.
Wenqi Wang received a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University in 2018. He obtained his Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Physics from Fudan University in 2013. His research interests are in machine learning clustering algorithms, deep learning, and finance. He was the recipient of Bilsland Dissertation Fellowship at Purdue. He is currently a researcher at Facebook.
Zhe Wang received a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University in 2014, working jointly with Prof. Xiaodong Wang. He is currently working with the government research labs in China.
Yu Xiang received a PhD in Electrical Engineering from George Washington University in 2014, working jointly with Prof. Tian Lan. She is currently a researcher at AT&T Labs Research.
