Project Description

The direct conversion of methane into liquid fuels and chemicals is a promising technology that can be used to better manage natural gas resources, especially stranded gas reserves that are too remote and too small to justify the installation of gas pipelines. However, previous attempts to develop this technology resulted in either poor selectivity or low conversion, a result that has been attributed to the relative instability of the desired products versus methane at the reaction conditions.

This research aims to solve the aforementioned problem by conducting fundamental studies on the reactions of interest and by applying recent advances in the field of catalysis to develop novel catalysts that would be effective for converting methane into liquid fuels and chemicals.
