Server Description
Left unchecked, earth channels erode under high velocity flows. In order to prevent such erosion, drainage channels are lined with a temporary or permanent liner. There are over 200 hundred geosynthetic products available today that reduce drainage channel erosion. Unfortunately, not all products are created equal. This server will aid the designer in the proper selection of these materials.
My server takes design parameters input by the user and returns a list of currently available products as well as links to detailed product specific information (shear stress & permissible velocity data, product descriptions, and recommened uses). Inputs include design velocity or design shear stress. These criteria would have come from a channel design analysis.
If you do not have the necessary inputs, this server will calculate them for you when given the appropriate inputs. Using these results, the server will direct you to the appropriate geosynthetic erosion control products
Who should use this server?
- Hydraulics Engineers
- Landscape Contractors or General Contractors
- State DOT Materials Departments
- Environmental professional performing reclamation studies
- Manufacturers and suppliers of drainage channel erosion control products
What knowledge do I need to have to understand this server?
- Basic knowlegde of Fluid Mechanics, primarily channel flow
- Understand the terms hydraulic shear stress, and velocity
- General idea of what geosythetics erosion control materials are
